Description
The Custom Articulated Thermoplastic AFO (Ankle Foot Orthosis) is a custom-fitted orthopedic brace designed to provide targeted support, alignment, and controlled movement of the foot and ankle. Made with a durable thermoplastic shell, this AFO can be customized to accommodate different clinical requirements and individual anatomy.
Unlike a rigid AFO, the articulated design incorporates an ankle joint that can allow selected ankle movement while still providing support. It is available with either a Free Motion ankle joint or a Dorsi-Assist ankle joint, depending on the prescribed functional requirements.
For additional alignment control, the brace is available with varus or valgus correction. These customization options allow the orthosis to be configured according to the individual’s specific foot and ankle positioning needs.
The footplate can be selected in metatarsal, sulcus, or full-length configurations, providing flexibility in how the brace supports the foot. An optional 1/8-inch medical-grade foam padding can also be added to improve cushioning and comfort.
A tibial pad closure helps secure the brace around the lower leg and maintain proper positioning during use. The combination of custom fabrication, articulated ankle movement, alignment options, and adjustable footplate length makes this AFO a versatile solution for specialized lower-extremity support.
The suggested HCPCS code is L1970, subject to the specific configuration and applicable billing requirements.
